What the Learning Together Program is:
The learning Together program is an intensive parent training, interpersonal and pre-vocational program offered by Rutland County Parent Child Center. The program provides an opportunity for young parents (generally through age 21) to receive the services they need to move forward in their lives and complete their education. Most of the participants in the Learning Together program enter with multiple challenges. Success in traditional educational settings often eluded them. As young parents they are expected to be self-supporting, contributing workers, and citizens; yet they lack the most basic information and skills needed to meet the multiple demands they face in the world. The Learning Together program was developed to close that gap.
The program consists of six basic components:
- Academics
- On the Job Training
- Counseling/Therapy
- Parent Education and Support
- Job Readiness Activities
- Interpersonal Skills
Schedule: The participants attend the program from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Friday 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The students split their time between classroom settings, worksites at our center (childcare and general office), and in group and individual counseling and therapy.
Benefits for Learning Together Families:
- On site childcare
- Support for the participant and their families
- Mentoring to support them in becoming successful parents
- Referrals to appropriate services
- Support with health issues for themselves and their children
- RCPCC has strong collaborations with the Vermont Department of Health, Rutland Area Visiting Nurses Association, Even Start Program, Department of Children and Families, and the Department of Economic Services
